 David was born in Granite
City, Illinois. David has one sister
named Juanita Wallace, a past
first lady of the Garden Grove
Elks Lodge #1952. David moved
to Redding, California when he
was fifteen years old with his
mother and finally settled in Hermosa
Beach, California where he
graduated from Redondo Beach
Union High School in 1963.
David entered the US Navy in
1965, went to electrician mate school in San Diego and worked
on Coronado Island. He, also, served on the USS Alfred A. Cunningham
DD 752 Destroy Escort in the South China Sea during
the Vietnam Era. He went to work at Garden Grove Glass
in 1968, and learned the glass trade from the bottom up. After
working 40 years in the surrounding area, David probably fixed
a window in your home or car. He retired in 2008. A second
career David had on weekends was Tournament Director for a
Professional Bass Fishing Group for 16 years.
David joined the Garden Grove Elks in 1971, became active in the
bowling league and assisted on several committees in the Lodge.
He served as trustee and chairman of the board and was on the Labor
Day and Bingo committee for over ten years. He was the Labor
Day chairman in 1988. David was the backroom chairman for
the Rudy Kaul Night at the races for 19 years and MC for the
last 2 years.
David married Janice in 2004, and was greeted with a new family
of three children, seven grand children and five great grand
children. Janice has been a member of the Garden Grove
Emblem Club #279 for many years. She has been at his side
to help him continue on in Elkdom.
David joined the Officer Corps as Loyal Knight then moved
through the chairs and was honored to be the 50th Exalted Ruler
of the Garden Grove Lodge #1952 in 2005-06. In 2006-07 he
was appointed district vice chairman for the Piggy Bank, and
chairman in 2008-10.
In 2007, David became Lead Ritual Coach for the Garden
Grove Elks, leading the team to three consecutive years, winning
the District, and State Championship, and has attended
three National Ritual Contests from 2008-2010.
David was awarded the position of Ambassador of Goodwill
to, Past District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler Dave Bakke in
2008-09, and Esquire to Past District Deputy Grand Exalted
Ruler Bob Genelle 2009-10.
David was installed as Association State Vice President for
the Orange Coast District on May 20th 2011 at State Convention
in Fresno CA. |
